Open and Supportive Staff

Lisa L.S., Certified Speech Language Pathologist
February, 2014

“As a speech language pathologist who provides swallowing therapy to On Lok San Jose participants, the best part of my job is being able to modify someone’s diet so that they can continue to have the pleasure of eating food by mouth safely. I can only do this because the On Lok staff has always been open and supportive to my recommendations and they have helped me relay these recommendations to caregivers as well.”

On Lok gives our kitchen department an important role to help our participants eat well and stay healthy, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

    Hope Was Sent at Midnight

    Elizabeth Nguyen, On Lok RN
    December, 2013

“I was working the NOC shift at Chinese Hospital when one night I felt like an angel sent to one of my assigned patients. He was an elderly man who had no family and did not want to burden his friends. He was admitted to rule out acute MI. He confided in me that he exaggerated his symptoms so that the hospital would keep him overnight. He was afraid of going home alone and no one to help him with his care. I was a recent hire as an on-call at On Lok and as able to provide him with valuable information about the PACE program. He was so grateful, kept thanking me and told me that he was praying all day for an answer to his health crisis and personal welfare. He said hope came at 12 midnight.”
